WoodWinging it

I’m now doing product evangelism for WoodWing, and diving deep into workflow products Enterprise and Content Station, as well as their newly acquired DAM system, Elvis.

Enterprise and Content Station are for managing the creation of content for multiple channels, including InDesign documents for print and tablet apps as well as Facebook, branded web sites, etc.

Elvis is a DAM system with very nice, user-friendly UI, and a modern architecture. Very suitable for agencies, publishers, and corporate environments.

There’s a natural synergy between these products and 1io’s one2edit, so hopefully there will be some interesting developments there in the future.

CreativePro coverage of one2edit

Mike Rankin at creativepro.com wrote a nice piece summarizing what one2edit can do for an enterprise looking to collaboratively edit marketing collateral done in InDesign, and make branded templates available to field staff distributed anywhere in the world.

one2edit intro video series posted at 1io.com

I put together a series of short videos to provide an overview of what one2edit and how it works.

You can find it here on the 1io web site.

There has been a lot of work done in the last few months, and the 2nd half of this year will see a number of additional enhancements added.

Edit, Translate, And Review Your InDesign Documents In A Web Browser

After 10+ years working for Adobe as an InDesign/InCopy evangelist, I’m now working for an Adobe partner called 1io.

What We Do

1io develops a web browser based collaborative workflow solution called one2edit for editing, translating, and reviewing live InDesign documents. It’s a way of putting the actual InDesign document in a user’s web browser instead of trying to turn them into fully trained InDesign and InCopy users, or instead of passing dozens of PDF, text, or XML files around via email for editing, comment and review. People involved in these collaborative processes are often MS Office people who need an easy, efficient way to perform these editing, translation and review tasks. They don’t want or need to become InDesign or InCopy users.

This is a screen shot of an InDesign document in one2edit's web editor application.

So, if you’d like to learn more about how to clean up, streamline, and reduce the costs of your editing, translation and review workflows for your InDesign documents, and achieve a 40 to 60% reduction in those process costs, give one2edit a look. You can arrange a demo with me.

For printers and developers, one2edit has extensive RESTful APIs for integration with back-end asset management systems, ordering, and other workflow systems to create web2print products.

In my next few posts will be about one2edit product features and benefits for editors, translators, reviewers, and online document template users.

The Adobe Microsoft Rumor’s Bad Aftertaste

Microsoft and Adobe

A match made in Redmond?

Lee Dallas blogs:

Adobe and Microsoft – This is one of those rumors that make my skin crawl. While I happily use technology from both I have very different opinions of the two organizations and their relative impact on my life. I can’t help but think that Microsoft will ruin the sweet Adobe experience.

Clean-up query set for Multi-Find/Change

Martinho da Gloria has posted a free text clean-up query set for his Multi-Find/Change plug-in for InDesign CS4 and CS5.

This set contains the following Find/Change Queries:
  • Three Dots to Ellipse (GREP Query): Replaces three consecutive dots (period, full-stop) by the Ellipse character.
  • Remove Leading Spaces and Tabs (GREP Query): Removes all the different types of space characters and tabs at the start of a paragraph.
  • Remove Trailing Spaces and Tabs (GREP Query): Removes all the different types of space characters and tabs at the end of a paragraph.
  • Multiple Tab to Single Tab (GREP Query): Replaces any occurrence of consecutive tabs by a single tab.

Martinho da Gloria’s excellent LayoutZone plug-in updated for CS5, and still free!

Martinho has updated his extremely useful LayoutZone scripted plug-in is now available for InDesign CS5, and is still free of charge.

The extremely useful plug-in enables you to select one or more objects in an InDesign layout and convert them into a linked InDesign document.

A demo from Cari Jansen is here.

Multi-Find/Change Now Available for Purchase

Martinho da Gloria’s Multi-Find/Change plug-in for InDesign CS4 and CS5 is now available for purchase at his website.

Seriously, if you massage and manhandle a lot of text in your daily InDesign life, and if you’re forever popping in and out of InDesign’s Find/Change dialog, this plug-in will save you a whole lot of time, effort, and errors.

If you haven’t seen it, the best way to quickly sum up the plug-in is like an iTunes playlist for your Find/Change queries. You can run lists of Find/Change operations in batches for text clean-up and anything else you like to do with InDesign’s Find/Change feature.

Adobe product expert Cari “InDesign Dundee” Jansen also did nice video demo for Martinho.
